What this calculator answers

A question such as “Can I retire with one Bitcoin?” is incomplete without a spending budget, date, inflation assumption, and other assets. This calculator first sizes a retirement portfolio from your desired income. It then credits the projected traditional investment balance and expresses the remaining requirement in BTC at the modeled retirement-date price.

How the calculation works

Bitcoin and traditional contributions are projected independently. Future income is today’s income multiplied by the inflation factor; dividing it by the withdrawal percentage gives the total portfolio requirement. Subtract projected non-BTC assets, floor the remaining requirement at zero, and divide by the assumed future BTC price. The additional BTC gap then subtracts the coins you are projected to own, including future purchases.

BTC required at retirement = max(0, income-based portfolio target − projected traditional assets) ÷ future BTC price.

Worked example

At zero inflation, $40,000 annual income and a 4% withdrawal assumption require a $1 million portfolio. If traditional assets are projected to cover $600,000 and the retirement-date BTC price is assumed to be $200,000, the remaining $400,000 corresponds to 2 BTC. A projected holding of 1.5 BTC leaves a 0.5 BTC gap. At a $100,000 price assumption, the same gap in dollars requires 4 BTC in total.

How to interpret the result

The output is a retirement-date holding requirement. It is not a claim that you must buy the entire quantity now, and it is not the same as a present-day dollar purchase budget. The required BTC-only monthly contribution keeps the original traditional projection unchanged. For a total monthly budget, add your original monthly non-BTC contribution to that BTC-only result; do not replace all savings with the Bitcoin number.

Assumptions and limitations

If traditional assets already cover the modeled portfolio target, required BTC is zero. That is a result of the selected income and withdrawal assumptions, not advice to sell. If the target age is now and there is a gap, a future monthly contribution cannot fill it instantly. Retirement withdrawals, taxes, fees, and volatile return sequences are not simulated. The model does not lend against Bitcoin or assume Bitcoin generates yield.

Privacy and practical next steps

The calculator does not connect to a wallet or change the Bitcoin Goal Tracker. Financial inputs remain in page memory except the shared live/manual price preference, most recent custom price, and last validated quote, which use isolated localStorage keys. Copying results is optional and includes financial inputs. Only a request for a normalized BTC/USD quote is sent to Stack2One's internal price endpoint; calculator financial inputs are not sent or included in custom analytics events.

Useful questions

Why does my required BTC change so much?

The remaining dollar requirement is divided by a hypothetical future BTC price. A smaller denominator means more coins are needed. Compare several price paths rather than treating the default as a forecast.
